Synopsis
Bougainvillea's Dream is a poetic Japanese period drama set during World War II, told through the heartfelt letters exchanged between Minoru, a reluctant soldier, and Chiyoko, his devoted wife. Torn apart by the war, Minoru is sent to the battlefield despite his quiet yearning to stay, while Chiyoko waits at home, finding solace in folding origami cranes. Their love transcends distance as they meet in a shared dream-an ethereal space where their hopes of reunion bloom like the fiery bougainvillea. Through their letters, the film explores the pain of separation, the burden of duty, and the enduring power of hope in the face of despair.
