Synopsis

Retired Major Cherkasov helps his former colleagues from the MUR investigate the murders of lottery participants who won large sums of money. Kovalev and Timofeeva believe that the organizer of the lottery Belousov and the host Shorokhov are behind the murders. Gradually unraveling the case, the MUR officers encounter resistance from officials for whom the lottery is an important budget item. Unexpectedly, the investigation leads the MUR officers to the Research Institute of Mathematics and Cybernetics, where a group of young scientists is conducting research aimed at studying and optimizing ways to earn money with the help of state lotteries.
