Synopsis

An old and a young operative investigate a brutal murder in a country house. The elder Max is hot-tempered and often steps over the boundaries of official powers. Young Nemov is reserved, prudent and cold. He examines documents and conducts interrogations. Unlike Max, his methods provide results. Both heroes are alone. Max has lost his wife, Nemov takes care of his disabled brother. They get along during the investigation, and detain the main suspect by working together. It seems to be over. Even so, Max casts doubt on the suspect. In contrast, Nemov is ready to dismiss the case. The partners have a quarrel on this basis. Shortly after that, a serious accusation comes up against Max regarding his aggressive investigative methods. He gets fired. That was the last thing that kept him afloat after his wife's death. As he was left completely alone, Max stumbles upon Nemov's personnel record and dossier again. He realizes that it was his partner who committed that brutal crime, trying to take revenge for his brother. In the end, Max faces a stark choice: whether he should save his life, get his job back or destroy another's life.
