Synopsis
After its disappearance on May 29, 1914, the Empress of Ireland still arouses passionate curiosity. The disaster claimed more than twelve thousand victims. This documentary reconstructs the investigative stages of drama and addresses a number of issues. Why was the rudder defective? Why were the watertight doors not closed at the time of the collision, which resulted in a rapid sinking? And the inquiry has withheld nothing? Why was a key witness found dead and his testimony never retained by the same commission of inquiry? Thanks to recent investigations, expert witnesses and numerous reconstructions, the documentary sheds new light on one of the biggest news story of the twentieth century. It has become a final summation on the subject.
